PURPOSE:
Oversees the effective operation, execution and coordination of the Strategic Sourcing Function at Novo Nordisk Inc. Acts as a strategic partner to functional areas within the company, to lead the development and achievement of sourcing goals . Influences senior leaders in setting direction for their functional areas by linking sourcing and business strategies in order to optimize business results.

RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports directly to the C.V.P., Finance and IT and interacts with the Executive Team and their leadership teams, certain budget managers and key suppliers of goods/ services. Manages, Director, Manager/Sr. Managers, Strategic Sourcing, E-Procure Coordinator and Finance Administrator. Chairs the North American Procurement Group.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Develop and execute sourcing and category strategies which are aligned with business objectives
• Develop spend analytics to enable effective and aligned sourcing strategies
• Define strategies for vendor partnerships, including (but not limited to) vendor selection, contract negotiation, governance, and termination
• Manage the RFI/RFP and bid evaluation process

• Proactively look for synergies across the organization to reduce costs and leverage resources
• Keep abreast of changing technology and global market trends that influence cost, quality and value
• Drive innovation and the development of potential new suppliers and alternate sources
• Understand legal and commercial aspects of negotiations and contract management to ensure optimal positioning for NNI
• Build effective relationships with key stakeholders to gain alignment of sourcing and process improvement strategies and plans
• Drive the achievement of savings targets in support of overall company goals
• Lead the company wide sourcing and vendor contracting process
• Lead and organize the sourcing function to become best in class
• Lead the sourcing, and negotiations of key contracts represent the company at industry sourcing functions and present at company meetings as required
• Chair the North American Procurement Group and represent North America in global sourcing activities
• Set strategic direction and drive companywide Supplier Diversity Program
• Oversee the development, monitoring and analysis of key sourcing metrics for continual improvement
• Member of the Finance & IT Senior Leadership Team

DEVELOPMENT OF PEOPLE:
Ensure that development and training plans are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of the goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility.
Ensure that reporting personnel have Performance Achievement Plans with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on the priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.
Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way of Management in support of our Triple Bottom Line.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• A 4 year College degree required, MBA strongly preferred
• C.P.M. preferred
• 15 years progressive strategic sourcing related experience most of which is in indirect/services; pharma industry experience preferred but not required
• 5 years prior experience leading and developing teams
• Candidate must possess a broad knowledge base across multiple categories of purchases and be well versed in sourcing methodology, process and negotiations
• Previous consulting experience a plus
• Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to influence others and work across organizational boundaries
• Must be able to manage multiple projects, effectively using multi-disciplinary resources to meet demands
• Must be able to work autonomously, exercise good business judgment and take decisive action
• Candidate should possess excellent presentation skills
