To help meet the growing demand for our treatments, Novo Nordisk expects to double production of diabetes and obesity drugs over the next decade. We are currently building a new 825,000 sq. ft diabetes Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) plant in Clayton, NC next to our existing “fill and finish” manufacturing facility. Our new $2 billion API facility is expected to be operational in 2020, with 700 full-time employees responsible for the fermentation, recovery and purification of insulin and GLP1 ingredients. Here, you will work with the best manufacturing professionals in the industry, while learning and taking part in the plant design.

Position Purpose:

Manage the training team to develop and implement the DAPI-US training strategy, including development of systems, content, processes and support. Ensure alignment of training program to quality management system, regulatory requirements and DAPI Denmark sister sites.


  • Responsible for oversight & management of the training department team, including but not limited to staff selection, expectation setting, feedback/coaching, motivation & development. Team includes Training Partners (executing training), Instructional Designer (developing content) and Training Coordinators (maintaining records and training systems).
  • Ensure training strategy and program is in place for adequate training of all individuals in the project & future operations. Implement training for competence ambition to develop and provide training in a variety of modalities that are suited for learner engagement, understanding, and retention of information.
  • Work with Supervisor, Technical Writing to align SOP landscape with training for competence ambition. Ensure documents are structured so that content supports training methods other than “read and understand.”
  • Ensure compliance so that all employees are sufficiently trained to complete their primary daily tasks safely and according to internal and external regulations. Includes supporting managers to regularly review training assignments and gaps in training plans.
Other Accountabiities:
  • Develop & execute systems providing document change control, as well as training & skill development.
  • Site leader in the implementation & continuous improvement of learning & knowledge systems processes, including ISOtrain & LearnIt.
  • Follow all safety, people, financial & environmental requirements in performance of duties.
  • Other accountabilities, as assigned.

Requires Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in relevant field required (MA/MS degree strongly preferred).

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of line &/or project management experience in an industrial, preferably regulated, industry.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of training principles, knowledge management, instructional systems design, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of direct management responsibility.
  • Ability to read, write & improve complicated product documentation & standard operating procedures with attention to high-level concepts.
  • Computer literacy, experience with Microsoft Office & ability to use &/or update relational databases.
  • Knowledgeable in NNPILP processes, GMP, Novo Nordisk Quality Management System (QMS) & standards improvement systems.
  • Proven track record in leading measurable process performance improvements.
  • Proven expertise in organizing information & the appropriate application of technology to improve processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply appropriate attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to managing complex processes & diverse teams.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally moves equipment and/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions.
  • Constantly operates a computer & other office equipment using hands.
  • Able to travel internationally, up to 10% of the time.
  • Able to work in an open office environment with the possibility of frequent distraction.
  • Able to work the hours necessary to support a 24/7 continuous manufacturing operation.
  • Able to adjust schedule to work with colleagues in other international time zones.
