Novo Nordisk is currently building a new diabetes API plant in Clayton, NC next to our existing facility that employs 800 people. The new plant will initially employ 700 employees to produce the active ingredients for a new diabetes oral treatment and a range of other diabetes drugs.

Sr. Manager, Operations-Fermentation

Position Purpose:
Responsible for facilitating project execution in general & project controls in particular. Lead tactical & long-term production processes & strategic activities to drive project & operational deliverables. Contribute to a positive, constructive & ambitious work environment in department leadership team as well as in own area of responsibility. Manage operational aspects of the Project to include cost, quality, & schedule requirements. Build & maintain the operations team. Lead strategic activities to drive operational performance & process/technical improvements ensuring standardization across shift teams. Ensure engagement, motivation & development of employees in team.

Accountabilities:

* Drive a safe workplace culture, ensuring safety & environmental requirements are met.
* Ensure robust processes are in place to exceed all quality objectives, specifications & requirements.
* Drive project performance to meet business & stakeholder needs.
* Elimination of issues & build simplicity into the processes.
* Alignment of process activities with lead time targets.
* Set direction by developing transparent process objectives based on site goals.
* Drive process performance to meet business & customer needs.
* Drive operational standardization & collaboration across shift teams, departments & DAPI DK.
* Provide strategic resource planning to operating the process in a cLEAN® way.
* Coach, develop, & engage direct reports, focusing on the NNWay essentials.
* Integration of quality & business ethics into decisions.
* Process confirmation of project & process standards.
* Drive project & process standardization & collaboration across shift teams & departments.
* Other accountabilities as assigned.

Education: MANDATORY
BA/BS in Science, Engineering or Business with an advanced degree preferred.

Experience: MANDATORY
Minimum of 8 years of leadership/management/supervisory experience in engineering, manufacturing, maintenance with a preference toward pharmaceutical industries.

Technical/Process/Functional Knowledge: MANDATORY
Knowledgeable in the following: API processes in general, fermentation processes in particular. Experience driving process improvements/design using systematic methodologies. Lean & Six Sigma strongly preferred. Strong business understanding & self-leadership is mandatory.

Organization/Planning: Proven expertise in mentoring & staff development, change management, planning & organizing, managing execution & revising work plans for complex issues addressed by cross functional teams.

Leadership: Sets direction, manages expectations & motivates staff to drive performance & achieve goals

Physical & Other Requirements:
* Ability to work in & around an active construction site during project phase.
* Ability to work in & out of the manufacturing facility.
* Ability to work hours necessary to support shift production.
* Ability to travel internationally.
* Ability to attain clean room gowning certification.
