The Position
This position works in support of the Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI) Ethics and Compliance (E&C) Program. Will serve as the E&C Business Partner for one or more specific customer groups (e.g. BioPharm Business Unit, Diabetes field sales) and work collaboratively with the business to identify and mitigate risk, evaluate and operationalize tactics and lead implementation of mitigation plans. Manages the E&C Helpline. Develops partnerships and strategies to promote the NNI Code of Conduct, Novo Nordisk Way and ensure a culture committed to compliance. Position will support the training function in development of a comprehensive Health Care Compliance (HCC) training plan and will be responsible for delivery of live training presentations to respective customer group(s).


Relationships
Reports to the Senior Director of Ethics & Compliance Business Partners. Works closely with in house legal counsel, global ethics & compliance colleagues, senior leaders in other departments and is a member of relevant cross functional teams across Novo Nordisk Inc, (NNI).


Essential Functions
  • Directly supports the execution of the E&C program, raising awareness and fostering accountability for E&C throughout the organization
  • Maintains understanding of laws and regulations, enforcement actions and evolving practices relevant to E&C and proposes updates to program, as appropriate
  • Participates in industry associations and events as appropriate to raise the profile of the E&C program and the company
  • Actively works to identify, analyze and mitigate potential risks to the organization
  • Responsible for ensuring that senior management is informed of E&C issues in a timely manner while encouraging the flow of information between colleagues and line of business
  • Strategic direction and oversees activities related to compliance for specific customer groups to ensure principles are considered when making critical business decisions
  • Leads and affects change within the business as necessary and oversees, monitors, and reports on the E&C program to senior leadership
  • Works collaboratively with functions such as investigations, training, monitoring and auditing
  • Proactively identifies enhancements or adjustments to E&C activities (e.g., policies, training, monitoring) based on business strategies
  • Preparation of reports to key internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to the government. Operationalize business tactics and provide day-to-day compliance guidance and support in order to assess and ensure adequate controls
  • Responsible for the oversight of the E&C Helpline
  • Responsible for the continuous enhancement of the helpline program consistent with industry leading practices and solutions, including leveraging available solutions
  • Provides strategic direction for the development and implementation of appropriate remediation plans in collaboration with compliance, legal and line of business
  • Develops training and knowledge updates pertaining to Federal health care program and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements and internal policies and procedures to business partners
  • Develops training with regards to risk areas and NNI policies
  • Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to business unit policies to support the ongoing evolution of the E&C program
  • Communicate effectively with key stakeholders (e.g. recurring sales meetings, speaker training)
  • Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to company-wide and business unit policies to support the ongoing evolution of the E&C program
  • Works with customer groups to provide direction for new processes, standards, or operational plans based on business strategies and risk
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to develop approaches to effectively mitigate risk and oversees the execution
  • Partner with E&C training function to support development of comprehensive Health Care Compliance training plan, including web-based training, live training and spot training based on compliance trends

Physical Requirements
20% overnight travel required.


Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required. Additional education/certification within the compliance and health-care related fields is preferred
  • 10+ years combined pharmaceutical, legal, regulatory, and compliance experience required OR 8+ years’ experience required if accompanied by an advanced degree or certification (MBA, JD, PMP, etc.)
  • Experience working under a Corporate Integrity Agreement (CIA) is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Anti-Kickback Statute and False Claims Act, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) rules and regulations regarding the promotion of pharmaceuticals, corporate integrity agreements and other prosecution agreements with other pharmaceutical companies, PhRMA code and the current activities and developments involving pharmaceutical sales and marketing
  • Knowledge and understanding of the required elements of effective compliance programs as outlined in the Human Health and Service (HSS) and Office of Inspector General (OIG)Compliance Program Guidance and the US Federal Sentencing Guidelines
  • Ability to drive projects to completion, meeting internal and external deliverables with high degree of accuracy
  • Communicates effectively with different audiences and in different contexts
  • The ability to think objectively and use sound reasoning principles
  • Uncompromising ethics and high standard of integrity
  • Strong project management, training and planning skills required
  • Experience with risk assessment and risk management preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, exercise independent judgment and demonstrated ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams with all levels of management and other company personnel
  • Builds and maintains strategic relations with internal and external stakeholders
  • Applies best practice compliance processes, methods and tools
