Purpose
The position is responsible for managing and leading the execution of brand strategies and company initiatives within their aligned Commercial Field Area. Leads a team who focuses on execution of marketing strategy and company initiatives within a Commercial Field Area. Responsible for overall area/therapeutic field efficiency and provides oversight over the execution of area business plans. Identifies opportunities to increase area sales through applying a field lens to business trends and sales metrics. Provides generalist support to enable the Vice president (VP), Area Commercial Lead. Partners with respective home office functions, including Commercial Effectiveness and Marketing in employing local market strategies within the Area.


Relationships
The position reports to the VP, Area Commercial Lead. Serves as a critical partner to the VP, Area Commercial Lead in executing and monitoring the Area business plans. Partners with Marketing on execution of strategies and with Commercial Effectiveness on the monitoring Area and Regional progress towards goals. Participates on, leads and serves on cross-collaboration governance teams as needed. Reporting to this individual is a team of Associate Directors Commercial Execution and Regional/Area administrative support.


Essential Functions
Field Execution: Manages a team with point/lead therapeutic franchise responsibility that works with the Brand teams. Responsible for awareness and understanding of what resources (included resources, processes, tools or technology) are available for the sales force and assist in the execution thereof. Leads a team that analyzes the market trends and competitive environment and engages in internal stakeholder conversations to determine the appropriate direction in deploying field resources in a compliant manner. Ensures the Area is effectively executing the strategic and tactical elements of the National Diabetes business plans. Represents the Area in the development of the company’s strategic and marketing plans. Ensures the execution of home office initiatives in support of field processes and technology. Analyzes the Area budget and partners with the VP, Area Commercial Lead on forecasting expenditures, reporting variances, reallocations and ensuring responsible spending. Manages individuals that provide regional/Area administrative support to the respective Field Directors. Provides oversight and ensures accountability of execution against company and Area priorities.

Communication: Responsible for ensuring National communications are understood and executed. Leads OnPoint for the respective Area. Manages a team who is responsible for filtering information out to the field.

Field Intelligence: Ensures the VP is up-to-date on business performance and identifies issues with sales forecasts and makes recommendations. Filters field requests and champions initiatives to marketing for requests aligned to national strategies in support of local markets Delivery of insights to marketing and input into marketing strategies and tactics for the brands and COEs. Collaborates with Marketing & Commercial Effectiveness at the Area level to provide field input into execution of the strategy. Applies a field lens to filter and deliver information to home office functions including; marketing, marketing strategies and tactics for the brands and COEs.

Local Market Execution: Manages a team that identifies problems and works to implement solutions for current and future initiatives. Filters field requests and champions initiatives to marketing for requests aligned to national strategies in support of local markets. Responsible for awareness and understanding of what resources are available to each sales teams assist in the execution thereof. Leads a team that analyzes the market trends and competitive environment and engages in internal stakeholder conversations to determine the appropriate direction in deploying field resources in a compliant manner. Uncovers local market opportunities, and partners with marketing and internal stakeholders to coordinate and ensure appropriate execution.



Physical Requirements
Up to 25% overnight travel required.


Development of People
Ensure that reporting personnel have 3P forms with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process; Ensure that the Individual Development Plan (IDP) forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility; Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a related field. MBA or equivalent preferred
  • Requires 12 years of sales, sales management or sales/marketing support experience in pharmaceuticals and/or related healthcare
  • A minimum of 3 years managing a team required
  • Ability to prioritize
  • High level of analytics and insight generation required
  • A strong understanding of pharma and market dynamics required
  • Prior experience operationalizing a strategy
  • Prior experience with portfolio selling approaches
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical sales data sources
  • Ability to operationalize marketing tools and resources to drive business results
  • Strong collaborator
