The Position
The Director of Population Health will be responsible for providing leadership, direction and strategic vision for population health strategies across our portfolio with cross-functional teams. The individual in the role will lead or be a key contributor to health improvement initiatives, data generation on key population segments, understanding of social determinants of health, quality measure development and patient related activities.

This position has broad responsibility for managing multiple internal relationships within and across Novo Nordisk Inc. as well as with Global. Internally, this role will work in close collaboration with Medical Affairs, (Field Medical Affairs, Medical Directors, Medical Strategy Operations (MSO)), Clinical Development & Outcomes Research (CD & OR), Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR), Value Evidence & Outcomes (VEO), Clinical Development), North American Clinical Operations, Digital Health and Digital Therapeutics; Medical Information, Public Affairs, Market Access, Global Corporate Intelligence (CI), Global Medical Affairs, Legal, Compliance and Regulatory.

External relationships may include medical affairs vendors, key opinion leaders (KOLs) and health care decision makers, health information technology experts, investigators, patient associations, community organizations and other consultants.

Essential Functions

  • Health Systems (HS) engagement strategy aligned to population health goals and associated capabilities building
  • Consistently evaluate Population Health Management (PHM) framework to enable solutions to be implemented across Medical Affairs functions and with CMR and NNI partners
  • Collaboration on the design, development, implementation and ongoing improvement of health outcomes outreach, research and education
  • Partnership across Medical Affairs, CMR NNI, and Global to develop and implement population health execution and evidence generation plans
  • Support training of Medical Affairs team, including Field Medical Affairs
  • Identification and oversight vendor activities in support of population health related projects
  • Keeps abreast of current healthcare trends by attending appropriate meetings and reviewing current literature. Provides market intelligence and insight on a regular basis to the organization
  • Working closely with leadership to understand the future needs for healthcare delivery models
  • Ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, contractual obligations and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) requirements

Physical Requirements
10-20% travel may be needed based on business need.

  • Terminal doctoral degree desired, with 8 years of combined experience in the pharmaceutical industry, clinical practice, health plan organization, health care system or quality improvement in healthcare experience is required; however, individuals with a Master’s degree and 12 years relevant experience (ex Public Health, Business Administration, Population Health, Health Economics Outcomes research, Healthcare Administration) will be considered; clinical experience a plus
  • Population health management experience desired
  • Highly motivated self-starter who is able to work independently, deal with complex issues, and communicate with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Established track-record of success in leading without authority
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills required
  • Strong solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to both think strategically and execute the associated tactics
  • Strong collaborator
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Clinical data analysis experience is highly recommended
