The Position
The Rebate Operations & Insights (ROI) team is responsible for ensuring efficient and compliant validation, payment, reconciliation and analysis of all rebate claims submissions for contracted customers in Commercial, Medicare Part D, Biopharm and the Medicare Coverage Gap program. The Director, Rebate Operations & Insights (ROI) leads and is responsible for all rebate contract operations performed by the team which represent over $4B in rebate liability annually and provides executive management with insights around the key drivers of rebate trend and variances to prior periods and forecast. The Director, ROI team provides oversight on all issues relating to rebate analysis and payments, adjudication of such payments on a timely basis, guidance on impact of rebate payments to forecasted cash flow and resolution of any disputes on rebate claims. Drive process improvements and innovation for rebate system processes. Supports Contract Management in development of contract language to ensure contracts can be operationalized in our existing systems.

Reporting to the Vice President (VP), Pricing, Contract Operations and Reumbursement (PCOR)
. Partners with Market Access, Contract Management & Compliance, Strategic Pricing, Government Pricing, Financial Planning & Analysis, IT, Order to Cash Operations and GSC. External partners include managed care customers, Market Access account executives and system vendors. Manages a team of rebate operations personnel.

Essential Functions
  • Develops and implements agreed upon rebate policies and advises management on strategic and operational issues pertinent to rebate contracts
  • Accountable for the efficient, timely and compliant management of all rebate agreements following existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)/Policies
  • Business lead for implementation/upgrade/enhancement of Model N Rebates module. Once implemented, works with CAB Board to manage Request for Change (RFC) process to implements any changes/enhancements
  • Collaborates with Government Pricing and IT to ensure accurate rebate claims information flows to Model N for calculations
  • Ensures Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) is aware of significant changes in rebate trend or variances to rebate forecast which may cause material changes in rebate accruals (ensures that FP&A is aware of shift in lives, rebate disputes etc.
  • Ensures robust validation and “scrubbing” of rebate submissions prior to payment thereby minimizing revenue leakage
  • Review all payment packages for accuracy and quality of support documentation
  • Leads resolution of rebate disputes and provides tracking on outstanding disputes. Ensures robust rebate variance analysis which explain drivers behind variances in current period vs. prior periods (including price and volume analysis)
  • Elevates the insights provided by the team leveraging claims level data or other customer data to provide management with the “story line” behind rebate trend and how it compares to forecast
  • Leverages customer data sets and portals to provide greater depth on customer insights down to the book of business level
  • Builds internal capabilities and leverages new data sts beyond standard rebate claims to support implementation of value-based/outcomes based contracts
  • Lead business-planning process as they relate to rebate management activities
  • Establishes, oversees implementation & monitors adherence to administrative policies & procedures, including SOX controls
  • Facilitates audits, reviews findings & provides recommendations based on findings. Implements cLEAN processes, automates workflow approvals and minimizes manual processes
  • Manages the coordination with external vendor for loading & scrubbing. Manages unit budget. Reviews & audits staff expense reports
  • Oversee team responsible for MCRview and manage system vendor relationship
  • Oversees the development & training of staff on rebate processes & data knowledge
  • Oversees the loading & formatting of data submitted for rebate processing; processing & evaluation of contracts & rebate data; schedules & assigns claims to staff for timely completion of rebate payments within contract deadlines
  • Provides analysis support to management and recommendations during the G2N accrual process

Physical Requirements
0-10% overnight travel required.

Development of People
Ensure that the Individual Development Plan (IDP) forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.

  • A Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience required. Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible related experience with at least 4 years in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Minimum 4 years prior people management experience required; Strong people management skills required and ability to recruit, train, develop and retain talent
  • Advanced of proficiency in managing large data sets whether through building databases, advanced Excel or SQL. Experience with data visualization/business intelligence applications preferred
  • Prior e responsibility for managing business requirements for Model N or Revitas required
  • High proficiency in Model N or I-Many CARS, Information Management System (IMS) data validation tools such as MCRview or Outlier view
  • Prior rebate management or contracting experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large initiatives with multiple stakeholders
  • Prior experience with implementing revenue management systems such as Model N or Revitas preferred
