The Position
Responsible for the controlling, analysis and reporting functions for Market Access and Public Affairs budget. Independently manages a $34M budget for Market Access and Public Affairs. Performs the monthly close responsibilities for entire department. Evaluates spending performance and conducts overall budget tracking. Responsible for driving all forecast update cycles for the business unit. Present forecast and/or actual results and findings to leadership team members on a recurring, periodic basis.

This position has a matrix reporting relationship. It reports to the Associate Director, Market Access and Public Affairs Strategic Execution and supports client group and Finance. This role will collaborate with Strategic Sourcing, Finance, Legal and Human Resources.

Essential Functions
  • Provides Spending recommendations to Functional Area based on analytical analyses, acquired knowledge and judgment
  • Communicate/distribute final budget amounts to Cost Center Managers and Finance
  • Coordinates/Prepares supporting analyses, schedules, spending summaries, as necessary, in support of Vice President (VP) Areas and Corporate Vice President (CVP), for Executive Team (ET) Budget meetings
  • Interfaces with Functional Area Leaders to gain agreement as to supporting detail with respect to ET Budget review corrective actions and ensures appropriate systems are updated and reconciled
  • Leads effort to coordinate, facilitate, update, create budget by Cost Center, by Account, by Month for area of responsibility for each formal budget cycle. Primary source of support and guidance to Functional Area during budget cycle
  • Establishes Budget Review meeting calendar. Prepares various analyses, schedules, commentary, as required by Finance’s Budget reporting document, in a timely and accurate manner
  • Responsible for ensuring BW and SAP system is reconciled and in agreement with desired spend levels for assigned areas
  • In quarter end months, meets with Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Manager to provide accrual journal entry support based on knowledge and collaboration with expense owners, accounting principles and adherence to prescribed internal controls. Guidance is provided to Cost Center Managers as to the nature and propriety of accruals
  • Prepares periodic reports of Spending for Senior Management, providing commentary and interpretation of results vs. Financial Plan
  • Responsible for mastering and becoming expert in various financial systems such as Business Warehouse, Global Financial Planning, SAP R/3 and ESSBASE, as required
  • Trains, supports assigned Functional Area with respect to Business Warehouse and SAP R/3, as necessary
  • Provides formal and informal guidance, analyses, data retrieval etc. for Market Access and Public Affairs. Primary financial contact for each Area and deals with all levels within that organization, from CVP to Administrator
  • Support large scale meeting planning for CVP
  • Work with designated administrators on execution of team Statement of Work (SOWs) for home office and field related purchases
  • Provides financial consultation for select Market Access and Public Affairs department-wide projects ensuring financial resources are allocated and executed upon
  • Leads the year-end financial process along with aligned review periods for Market Access and Public Affairs

  • A bachelor's degree required; relevant experience may be substituted for degree when appropriate
  • A minimum of 8 years accounting/financial analysis experience required
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience preferred
  • Meeting Planning experience preferred
