The position
The Senior Director, Content & Editorial Management leads the integration of Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI) Communications strategy across all functions, initiatives and products through editorial planning, communication channel management, analytics and measurement. Ensures the NNI Communications Team leverages a variety of strategies and tactics across channels to drive success with high degrees of collaboration. Leads and guides efforts to tell the NNI corporate narrative, ensuring alignment across teams, properties and channels. This includes establishing a corporate storytelling engine for all digital channels (internal and external) and being the expert on corporate brand/visual identity. Drives innovation of NNI Communications department practices and channels and ensures operationalization in order to modernize and continuously improve performance. Develops measurement strategies and ensures robust analytics and insights driven decision-making and resource allocation across the department while supporting department operations.


Relationships
Reports to the Vice President, NNI Communications and serves on the Communications Leadership Team. Manages a small team as well as contractors and suppliers. Collaborates and serves as a subject matter expert with all areas within NNI and NNA/S regarding communications and content & channel strategy. Leads NNI Communications team in editorial planning, analytics and operations to ensure goals and business needs are met.


Essential Functions
  • Lead and oversee all aspects of editorial planning and strategic content management across internal and external channels, including an integrated approach to delivering the NNI Corporate Narrative within and beyond NNI Communications
  • Develop and deliver on annual editorial strategy/plan including core messaging for the company
  • Establish the vision and path for the team; set operating and performance standards across NNI Communications, identify department initiatives to develop skills and competencies for future growth
  • Liaise continuously with peers/colleagues in NNI Communications and across NNI to ensure story, messaging and communication activities and execution are aligned and consistent
  • Lead, evolve and develop the Content and Editorial team that serves as strategic consultants to all of NNI and the NNI Communications department
  • Leverages knowledge of the business and industry to influence decision making and maximize communications both internally and externally
  • Contribute to and actively develop proactive and reactive communications strategies related to our medicines and business
  • Collaborates with NN A/S communications and establishes the content and editorial strategy for the NNI Communications function that is aligned to the company’s mission, vision and goals
  • Build and oversee a dedicated corporate digital and social capability, including channel management, optimization of current channels (e.g. nn.us, LinkedIn, NovoNews) and expansion into new platforms
  • Lead, evolve and develop the capabilities of NNI Communications team to capitalize on new communication channels and practices
  • Advocate for platform and technology changes and enhancements with global colleagues and decision makers
  • Continue to build analytics capabilities and utility; implement and oversee reporting activities for NNI Communications
  • Constantly evaluate data and metrics to drive effective storytelling efforts and decisions
  • Continue to build and oversee editorial planning and digital asset management tools for NNI Communications
  • Partner with colleagues in marketing, medical, legal, regulatory and compliance to establish governance related to communications content, channels and activities
  • Lead NNI Communications Strategic Planning process working with the Leadership Team
  • Serves on the NNI Crisis Response Team

Physical Requirements
Approximately 10-25% overnight travel, domestic and international.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Business, Political Science or related field required
  • Minimum 12 years communications experience including corporate, agency experience and agency management required
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisor/management experience in communications required
  • Broad scope of Communications experience, with experience in public relations agency highly desired
  • Visionary, yet pragmatic; a big-picture thinker who can also inform tactical decisions
  • Demonstrated expertise and cutting-edge thinking in digital communication and communications operational excellence
  • Change agent who can inspire innovation within the team and across the function
  • Self-driven and effective in building new endeavors; able to create clarity and set priorities for function
  • Strong executive presence; proven ability to effectively and appropriately work with and influence at all levels
  • Flexible and able to successfully navigate ambiguity and succeed in a rapidly changing, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple priorities
