The Commercial team leads all sales and marketing efforts for Novo nordisk Inc (NNI’s) robust portfolio, which includes insulins, analogues, GLP1s, devices, Oral Anti Diabetics (OAD), obesity medications, biopharmaceuticals and new products in the pipeline. The Position

Oversees portfolio strategic direction and alignment. Oversees and leads the development and implementation of marketing strategies that span across the entire portfolio of Diabetes products (inline and pipeline). Responsible for overseeing management and execution of strategic projects and communicates relevant market information, interpretations and recommendations to inform and influence executive decisions. Ensures the execution and lifecycle management of all mature brand plans to drive market share, profitability, and sales goals. May be consulted on matters of significance to the group or company and is relied heavily on in the absence of the Executive Director.

Reports to the Executive Director Strategic Support & Mature Brands. Manages a team directly and participates on cross-functional and relevant global teams. Collaborates closely with the brand teams, market development, diabetes sales, market access, medical, commercial effectiveness, and legal as well as with global marketing. External relationships include working with agencies, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and other influencers of care.

Essential Functions
  • Develops strategic positioning of NNI Diabetes brands across the portfolio based on understanding of customer needs and clinical / economic value propositions of individual brands
  • Determines relative priority of brands across the Diabetes portfolio for incorporation into planning and Plan of Action (POA) cycle strategy.
  • Provides proactive strategic oversight and direction and ensures plans are adjusted as organizational priorities change and are clearly communicated across the company.
  • Oversees development and execution of mid-to-long-term Business Unit strategies including alignment of strategy, consistency of Diabetes priorities, partnership in execution/evaluation of impact
  • Partners with Brand Teams and centes of excellence (COEs) to ensure aspirational opportunities are all incorporated in planning processes. Ensures that a robust framework is established to evaluate and prioritize Diabetes Marketing Portfolio.
  • Collaborates closely with leadership from Field Sales and CE to to identify and overcome barriers to optimal care management and address care gaps in key patient and provider needs
  • Provides strategic direction and planning in ways that reveal new opportunities, potential threats and mitigating actions.
  • Ensures appropriate education and/or guidance to relevant internal functions on Portfolio Customer strategy.
  • Oversees management and executions of strategic projects, as assigned by the Executive Director and SVP of Commercial.
  • Evaluates short and long-term customer priorities as part of the evolution of the healthcare landscape
  • Oversees identification of key customer influencers (existing and emerging)
  • Collaborates with Promotional Education for development and execution of health care provider (HCP) specific action plans
  • Closely analyzes quantitative data to balance portfolio optimization; defines thresholds for balancing revenue loss vs. costs to drive patient acquisition
  • Identifies decision rights around LCM activities
  • Clarifies thresholds for management of brands under the LCM umbrella

Physical Requirements
20-30% overnight travel required

Development of People

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, MBA preferred.
  • 12+ years in roles with progressive responsibility; experience in other cross-functional roles (e.g. field, medical, marketing, market access, analytics or other related functions required.)
  • Previous management and team leadership experience required with proven ability to inspire, motivate and develop team members
  • Proven track record of successfully working cross-functionally to derive solid strategies and execution plans with high impact required
  • Must have strategic thinking and planning skills and ability to successfully leverage analytical insights into strategy development, deployment and optimization
  • Solid understanding of the marketplace and competition, preferably within diabetes and of the pharmaceutical marketplace including medical, regulatory and clinical processes, preferably within diabetes
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills in leading cross-functional teams and/or setting direction /strategy that provides strategic impact cross functionally, enterprise wide and/or globally is essential
  • Prior experience leading strategic initiatives and/or special projects that shows an increased breath of knowledge is essential
  • Proven track record in inline product marketing preferred
  • Ability to manage business complexity
  • Excellent presentation/communications skills
