The Position
This position is responsible for the development and implementation of the Ethics and Compliance (E&C) Department’s strategic plans for communication, education and training. Responsible for the development and maintenance of standards of conduct, policies and procedures related to E&C. Ensures a holistic approach that considers broader organizational priorities, including organizational risk as well as external insights. Creates and executes organizational change management (OCM) plans and performs special projects as requested by E&C leadership.


Relationships
Reports to the Director, E&C Strategy, Risk & Education. Collaborates with global compliance colleagues, E&C Leadership Team, Novo Nordisk Inc (NNI’s) in-house legal counsel and leaders across lines of business (LoB). External relationships include vendors and consultants as well as developing and maintaining relationships with the broader E&C network within the industry.


Essential Functions

  • Supports the Director – Strategy, Risk & Education with the development & implementation of strategic E&C communication, education and training plans
  • Raises awareness of the program and fosters accountability for ethics and compliance throughout the organization
  • Fosters a continuous improvement mindset and proposes enhancements to the Program informed by industry trends and best practices
  • Champions a proactive approach to E&C that is focused on partnership, prevention and risk mitigation
  • Participates in industry associations and engagements to raise the profile of the E&C Program and the company
  • Supports development, maintenance, and periodic review of E&C policies and procedures
  • Develops, reviews and updates standards of conduct to ensure continuing currency and relevance
  • Leads reviews of policies and procedures and obtains necessary feedback from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from all functional areas to incorporate relevant updates to policies & procedures
  • Works cross-functionally to collaborate with business leaders in developing policies and procedures to help enable the implementation of NNI’s ethics and compliance program
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of platforms and tools for employees and third parties to access company standards related to E&C
  • Leads policy simplification efforts with the goal of continuously improving and aligning E&C policies and procedures
  • Strives to ensure sufficient E&C risk area coverage, plain-language writing principles, and user-friendliness
  • Supports the Director in developing and overseeing the implementation of the strategic plan surrounding communications, education & training for employees and third parties, in alignment with department mission, government expectations and larger organizational priorities
  • Develops and oversees a system to take a more "proactive" risk-based approach to its E&C education and training activities
  • Strives to ensure the continuous enhancement of the communication, education and training program consistent with industry leading practices and solutions, including leveraging available solutions
  • Works closely with E&C business partners to develop training plans and content, supporting business partners in execution of education, training and communications initiatives
  • Drives the storyline and content of strategic communications, including presentations to key internal and external stakeholders, ensuring a holistic view to that considers broader organizational priorities and external insights
  • Promotes the Novo Nordisk Way through strategic communications that motivate and engage the organization to ensure a culture of ethics and compliance
  • Develops and implements systems, processes and/or tools to track the completion of education and training by employees and third parties
  • Oversees development surveys on E&C education and training events, in order to get feedback and data, continually improve the E&C program, and enhance understanding of E&C principles
  • Supports the Director in overseeing organizational change management initiatives for the broader E&C organization under the direction of the Corporate Vice President, Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer (“CECO”)


Physical Requirements
0-10% overnight travel required.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required with a minimum of 8+ years combined experience in pharmaceutical, legal, regulatory and compliance experience required OR a minimum of 6+ years’ experience if accompanied by an advanced degree or certification (e.g. MBA, JD, PMP)
  • Prior experience working under a government agreement (e.g. CIA, DPA, Consent Decree) preferred
  • Strong health care compliance background and clear understanding of elements of an effective ethics and compliance program
  • Maintains understanding of laws and regulations, enforcement actions and evolving best practices relevant to pharmaceutical ethics & compliance and proposes updates to Ethics & Compliance program, develops plan and deliverables to inform relevant internal functions
  • Uncompromising ethics and high standard of personal integrity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required. Ability to interact with all levels of the business
  • Handles confidential information with discretion and uses information to inform strategic thinking and approach to compliance matters
  • Demonstrated ability in leadership/collaboration skills with the ability to develop and communicate a vision and engage people in that vision.
  • Demonstrated ability to display expert level critical thinking in applying principles, theories and concepts on a wide range of problems
  • Demonstrated ability creating strategic direction, plans and proven ability to drive and sustain business improvement and results
  • Communicates effectively with different audiences and in different contexts
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
