The Position
The Senior Manager- Ethics and Compliance Investigator will conduct investigations into ethics and compliance issues and remediate employee adherence to Novo Nordisk policies, federal and state laws, and regulations. The Senior Investigator will identify and analyze ethics and compliance risk to the company, including by providing assistance with the development and implementation of remediation measures for matters identified through investigations. The Senior Investigator also will partner with key stakeholders to provide guidance and subject matter expertise on ethics and compliance issues and work to promote a culture of ethics and compliance at the company.


Relationships
This role reports directly to the Director of Ethics & Compliance Investigations. The Senior Manager will be responsible for independently conducting and managing investigation activities related to alleged ethics and compliance policy violations. This position will partner closely with Ethics & Compliance colleagues and other internal stakeholders in the Legal Department, Human Resources, headquarters, affiliates, and other Novo Nordisk Inc (NNI) lines of business. External relationships include interaction with outside counsel and other external vendors and industry peers.


Essential Functions
  • Support the Director, Investigations in raising awareness of the Ethics & Compliance program and fostering accountability for ethics and compliance throughout the company
  • Independently conduct prompt, thorough and objective internal investigations of alleged Novo Nordisk policy violations while exhibiting sound judgment and objectivity, a systematic approach to decision making, strong attention to detail, and solid analytical/problem solving skills
  • Proactively work to identify, analyze, and mitigate compliance and business ethics risks to the company
  • Maintain an understanding of healthcare fraud and abuse laws, anti-kickback statute and other laws, industry trends, enforcement actions, and government reporting obligations affecting the company
  • Develop and maintain knowledge and understanding of Novo Nordisk Diabetes, Obesity, and Biopharm disease state and products
  • Develop and maintain knowledge and understanding of all company policies and guidance documents involving healthcare compliance and business ethics. Ensure utilization of all investigative tools and resources available
  • Document investigation in the case management system and compose investigation report and collect all supporting documentation in a timely manner
  • Ensure consistent interpretation and application of ethics and compliance-related policies and guidance documents
  • Present facts and trends to aid in the assessment of appropriate remediation measures in closed investigations, including analysis of root cause and suggested corrective strategies
  • Interface collaboratively and effectively, and provide subject matter expertise, to key stakeholders and colleagues at all levels of the company with appropriate discretion and timeliness
  • Provide independent and strategic partnership with other areas of Ethics & Compliance department to share trends and aid in the development of remediation plans
  • Serve as a tactical and strategic partner with Employee Relations, Human Resources, Legal department, line of business, and other key stakeholders to effectively identify, analyze and mitigate compliance and ethics risk
  • Lead activities to support fulfillment of current and future government and/or regulatory reporting requirements
  • Support sample investigation competencies and process
  • Manage Compliance Hotline communications and referrals to Employee Relations and/or other business units
  • Independently work on ad hoc projects with minimal supervision and oversight from manager
  • Identifies opportunities across the department and company to continuously optimize existing processes to simplify and improve

Physical Requirements
Approximately 10% overnight travel may be required


Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required, Juris Doctorate law degree, or Advanced Degree from an accredited college, university, or graduate program, preferred
  • 8+ years combined pharmaceutical, legal, regulatory, and compliance experience required OR 6+ years of experience required if accompanied by an advanced degree or certificate (MBA, JD, PMP, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience as an investigator in the pharmaceutical industry preferred, with particular emphasis on investigations of marketing and sales
  • Experience working under a government agreement (e.g. CIA, DPA, Consent Decree), preferred
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations and guidance applied to pharmaceutical sales, marketing and clinical programs
  • Ability to communicate (both verbally and in writing) complex issues with simplicity and efficacy
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with peers and stakeholders throughout the company in different contexts and at different levels
  • Ability to respond to competing priorities across the department and manage workload effectively, set priorities and deliver results
  • Strong, independent and ethical decision-maker with a demonstrated commitment to integrity and compliance
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to think objectively and use sound reasoning principles
  • Supervisory experience, preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
