The Commercial team leads all sales and marketing efforts for Novo Nordisk Inc (NNI’s) robust portfolio, which includes insulins, analogues, GLP1s, devices, Oral Anti Diabetics (OAD), obesity medications, biopharmaceuticals and new products in the pipeline. The Position
To provide business unit development and leadership of a high performing field sales force. Develop and execute sales strategies that increase sales and market share, increase profitability, and maximize productivity.


Relationships
Reports to a Vice President (VP) in the Commercial area. Manages an entire Regional Business Unit and has direct supervisory responsibility for District Business Managers (DBMs), and indirectly through DBMs, Diabetes Care Specialists (DCS). Works closely with the Health Systems teams, Educators, Market Access, peers, and the home office marketing, sales, and Medical. Other relationships include key physicians, key thought leaders, key institutions, field and home office personnel.


Essential Functions

  • Adhere to applicable company and workplace and policies
  • Ensure timely and accurate transmission of representative and manager required data e.g. customer coverage/call data, time accountability data, etc.
  • Monitor and reinforce the use of any applicable systems
  • Develop and monitor performance against regional budgets
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of administrative requirements
  • Establish and oversee regional implementation and monitor adherence to administrative policies and procedures
  • Evaluate appropriate use of regional resources to ensure attainment of profitability goals
  • Review and audit expense reports
  • Develop and obtain significant thought leader support
  • Development of key opinion leaders (KOLs), advocacy groups, and others that can and will impact Diabetes pharmacological treatment and disease state management Effective use of promotional programs
  • Obtain sales and market share objectives consistent with the National Diabetes Sales goals for primary care and endocrinology
  • Operate within budget and obtain financial/return on investment (ROI) targets
  • Align the sales team with each other as well as other field personnel e.g. Account Executives, etc.
  • Establish a region vision consistent with the Novo Nordisk Way
  • Provide clear direction, inspiration and motivation of the regional Diabetes Sales team Take the initiative, anticipate and solve problems
  • Develop and execute regional and territorial business plans that result in achievement of NNI business results consistent with company objectives. Includes customer identification and prioritization, competitive analysis, business success requirements and implementation plans, future trends, etc.
  • Coordinate regional resources
  • Participate as a member in the National, Area and Regional planning process

Physical Requirements
40-50% overnight travel required. Driver must maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be in good standing by not exceeding the Novo Nordisk points threshold assigned based on review of Motor Vehicle Records.



Development of People
Ensure that reporting personnel have 3P forms with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the individual development plan (IDP) forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.


Qualifications
  • A Bachelors degree required; major in business or marketing preferred
  • A minimum of eight years of progressive pharmaceutical/healthcare sales experience required
  • A minimum of two years previous first line management experience required. Four years previous management experience is preferred
  • Diabetes sales experience preferred
  • Marketing, sales training, or other home office experience preferred
  • Significant record of sales accomplishments
