The Position
To provide technical expertise and execute laboratory research strategies in support of multiple in vivo and in vitro projects focused on expedited evaluation and the clinical translation of therapies for type 1 diabetes and kidney disease. This position will be responsible for providing peer leadership and technical support in the laboratory for research experiments and data integrity.


Relationships
Reports to of the head of the Type 1 Diabetes, Immunology, & Kidney Disease department. Internal relationships including working closely with technical staff and other members of the scientific leadership team in TIKD; regular collaborations with members of other research departments at NNRCSI; & frequent interaction with project managers and other colleagues in Denmark. Individual may interact with external research collaborators both academia- and industry-based.


Essential Functions
  • Plan and perform lab-based studies to support project efforts
  • Propose and champion novel targets in kidney disease
  • Attend appropriate external scientific meeting and, where possible, present data
  • Oversee projects and programs through cross-collaboration of teams, requiring flexibility and excellent communication skills
  • Write and review collaborative research manuscripts
  • Supervise and provide mentorship to Research Assistants, Associates and junior Scientists
  • Achieve business goals, share information, learnings, knowledge and skills and promote cross-functional teamwork
  • Actively review patents and patent applications in areas of research relevance and identify opportunities
  • Assume responsibility for project design and implementation
  • Communicate regularly with international colleagues within Novo Nordisk

Qualification
  • Ph.D. required in pharmacology (preferred), molecular biology, immunology, or relevant biological science area with minimum 3-years post-degree experience in relevant research area
  • For KD-Immunology Area:
    • Significant knowledge of fibrosis & diabetic kidney disease, as well as an understanding of current treatment options
    • Experience and knowledge concerning animal & in vitro models of fibrosis and kidney disease
    • Knowledge & experience in pharmacology required
    • Experience in contributing significantly to drug and/or biomarker discovery and evaluation efforts in areas of fibrosis, chronic kidney disease, and/or diabetic kidney disease, including establishment of innovative methods to facilitate discovery and validation, preferred
  • A subject matter expert with a high level of creativity
  • Experience working with human samples a plus
  • Previous industry experience preferred
  • Experience functioning as both a team leader and a team player with strong people and collaboration skills. Deep interest and talent for interpersonal relations and communication, excellent situational leadership and change management skills
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is a prerequisite for the role
  • Good communication skills and cross-cultural understanding to interact in the global organization
  • Strong analytical skills for integrating and interpreting interdisciplinary data
  • Strong, dynamic, ambitious and determined
